Sometimes, it’s hard out here for a writer.

You’re pitching ideas for a book or a magazine article to different publications and publishing companies and … crickets. No one is responding to your letters, emails or calls.

A great way to break out of this rut is to attend a writers conference.

The Triangle Association of Freelancers (TAF), a regional writers group, is hosting its annual Write Now! conference on Saturday, April 29.

The conference will be at North Carolina State University’s McKimmon Center in Raleigh, N.C. from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. More information about the conference and registration is at the bottom of this article.

I’m also happy to announce that I will be moderating an editor panel discussion called “The State of Magazine Publishing Today.” The panel will feature magazine editors from regional and national publications including Sarah Smith, executive editor of the popular women’s magazine Redbook.

Do you want to write for magazines?

The Write Now conference will teach you how to develop awesome article ideas and turn those ideas into well-written articles.

Did you know that there are more ways to get paid as a writer than just writing for magazines? This conference will show you other ways to find well-paying writing gigs.

Do you love writing fiction?

Learn how to develop unforgettable characters for your next book. The conference will also teach you how to sell your stories to literary journals and do research while writing fiction.

I highly recommend registering for the Write Now conference (and not just because I’m moderating a conference session). I’ve attended this conference during the past few years and I’ve met a lot of great writers at these conferences and other TAF group events. These folks helped me restart my writing career.

I have my own “meet cute” story about how I learned about TAF and their writers conference, but that’s another story for another day.

So, be sure to check out my blog next weekend for that story.
