Happy National Novel Writing Month!
Or also known as, NaNoWriMo.
I want to do more than just wish all of you good luck with your novels or other writing pieces you will create. I’m also offering a few great resources and recent blog posts about NaNoWriMo. Let’s take a look at how NaNoWriMo works and how to meet your writing goals.
1. What is NaNoWriMo?
National Novel Writing Month is an annual writing event that happens from November 1 – November 30. During this time, writers (mostly from the U.S.) work write a 50,000-word novel by the end of November 30.
Writers sign up to participate in this writing challenge, on National Novel Writing Month’s official website. The website provides plenty of resources, interactive tools and apps to track your progress, celebrate hitting certain word-count milestones and connect with other writers for support

2. How can you “win” during NaNoWriMo?
Can NaNoWriMo bring you closer to meeting your writing goals? Will it help you finish writing your book?
Find out by reading author Kristina Adams’ blog post. It’s a refreshingly realistic and hopeful look at her own past experiences with NaNoWriMo and what she – and you – can learn from them to be a more productive writer. Plus, it has a reference to the movie “Mean Girls.”

3. Can non-fiction writers do NaNoWriMo?
YES! You can. Don’t let the name of this writing challenge fool you. The goal to write 50,000 words in one month works for a biography, memoir, advice book, and other types of nonfiction works.
Writer Mateja Klaric gives great reasons for why she is doing NaNoWriMo to work on her own advice book, and why you should do the same for your own nonfiction writing.
