“Oh, you’re a writer? What’s it like to be a writer?”

You: “Well…”

It’s hard to explain what it’s really like to write, whether you do it as a hobby, for a living, or a little bit of both.

Maybe you’re reading this blog post while sitting in a beautiful meadow, with a brand new laptop and a head full of wonderful ideas that will lead to your next great book or blog post.

Or, maybe not.

Either way, here are three great blog posts to help you deal with the sometimes harsh, funny, good, and everything else in between realities of writing and sharing your work with others.

1. A Harsh Dose of Reality

The good news: You’ve just written a book!

The bad news: Not everyone will read it.

So, what should you do now?

Author Dawn Field gives some tough love to fellow writers, followed by great advice along with questions writers should ask themselves while writing a book.

2. A Real Look at a Writer’s Life

Don’t be fooled by the romantic tone of this blog post’s title. Freelance writer Trevor Lowry quickly gets rid of any romantic ideas behind the phrase “I’m writing like my life depends on it.”

Do you feel like a “real writer” while budgeting for groceries, rent/mortgage and other bills?

If you don’t, you’re not alone.

You will probably connect and relate to one or more of Trevor’s ideas and routines in this thoughtful blog post.

I know I did.

3. August is a Really Good Month for Writers

Did you know there are more than 30 writing conferences during August happening in different parts of the United States?

I previously wrote about how writing conferences can help you.

Author Erica Verrillo shares a great list of writing conferences to help you meet other writers and improve your writing.

I hope you find these posts to be helpful in getting you motivated to continue writing!
